Energy costs decrease under Energy Savings Program

Between FY 2008-09 and FY 2010-11 (the fiscal year that just ended in July), the Milford School District saved 31.5% in gas costs 21.5% in electric.  These savings come not only from the updated systems and controls the newer buildings now sport, but through a concerted effort on the part of all staff members (and even some students!) to find ways to reduce energy consumption.

The percentage savings translates to over $360,000 in savings over the two years.  What is especially encouraging is that, in 2010-11, even with an additional 100,000 square feet in the high school, that building alone reduced cost about $108,000 over the period.  This shows how the more energy efficient equipment, coupled with central controls and staff awareness, can make a huge difference in the energy a building consumes.
