Provide input on English/math standards

Representatives from 48 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia who are developing the new national English & math standards posted their thoughts online last week at www.corestandards.org/.  The public is invited to review the drafts and provide input prior to April 2, 2010.  Once input is received, the groups will work on final versions, which are expected to be complete by May.

So far, only Texas and Alaska have bowed out of adopting the national recommendations, which are evidence-based, clear, understandable & consistent, and aligned with college/work expectations as well as with other countries.  Kentucky was the first state to adopt them formally.  Last month, their state school board voted unanimously to replace state standards in both subjects with the new national standards.

Be sure to give your input!  Visit www.corestandards.org/ prior to April 2!
